3-something A.M. A drunk regular announces to the whole store that Kaito and Amano Yuki — the night-bus driver who stops in on her 3:12 layover — are obviously in love. Unable to make himself deny a thing that happens to be true, Kaito treats the claim as a factual error to be corrected: he collects contradictory, unverifiable verdicts from the night regulars (a tracksuit can-collector, a nurse, a student, an old man) and even phones head office out of pure displacement, three times opening his mouth to deny it and three times failing. When Yuki arrives and is told what was said, she answers flatly — "Yes. Obviously. So?" — and Kaito finally agrees out loud. They stand there having admitted it with nothing whatsoever to do about it, because her layover is thirteen minutes and then she has to go drive a bus. She leaves at 3:31. At dawn Kaito says the rest of it to an empty doorway, and Rin — who filmed the whole confession — quietly decides not to post it. A self-contained deadpan Dead Hours comedy: Kaito gets the correct answer and nothing else.

A wide establishing shot of the interior of a 24-hour convenience store at around 3 A.M. Fluorescent lights buzz overhead; rain runs down the front windows onto an empty street. Kaito (name tag KAITO) stands behind the register, deadpan and tired. A drunk salaryman in a rumpled grey suit and loosened tie slumps against the counter holding a can. Rin (name tag RIN) leans on a shelf, holding up her phone to film. KAITO: ...quiet one tonight.
Page 2
Three panels. Top: the drunk salaryman points a wobbling finger across the counter at Kaito, delivering a grand pronouncement. Middle: a tight close-up on the drunk's smug, flushed face, finger still raised. Bottom: Kaito (name tag KAITO) stands frozen and blank-faced as Rin's phone swings into the foreground, filming him. SALARYMAN: You. And the bus driver. SALARYMAN: You're in love. Obviously. RIN: oh, we're recording this.
Page 3
Two panels establishing the chapter's running beat. Top: Kaito (name tag KAITO) stands behind the counter, mouth just opening, a bead of sweat on his temple, saying nothing. Bottom: the same framing, mouth open now, one index finger raised as if to correct a fact. KAITO: ...that's not—
Page 4
Four panels. Kaito (name tag KAITO), composing himself, treats the accusation as a clerical error. Rin (name tag RIN) films him flatly and calls his bluff. Kaito hesitates, sweating. KAITO: It's a factual inaccuracy. KAITO: Inaccuracies get corrected. That's all this is. RIN: so deny it. KAITO: ...I'm gathering the facts first.
Page 5
Three panels. The tracksuit regular — tall, shaved head, grey zip-up tracksuit, holding a clear plastic bag of empty cans — delivers his verdict while Kaito leans in earnestly. Kaito (name tag KAITO) jots it on a blank pad; Rin (name tag RIN) watches, bored. KAITO: You. Her. Verdict? TRACKSUIT REGULAR: Nah. You just top up her hot water. That's not love, that's plumbing. KAITO: See. Plumbing. Objective. RIN: one guy with cans.
Page 6
Two panels — the running beat returns. Top: the tracksuit regular points a single can across the counter, challenging Kaito. Bottom: the same identical framing of Kaito (name tag KAITO), mouth open, one finger raised, sweating. TRACKSUIT REGULAR: So you deny it? KAITO: ...that's not—
Page 7
A dense six-panel comedic ladder. A tired night nurse in scrubs sips coffee; an insomniac student in glasses holds two energy drinks; an old man in a flat cap leans on a cane. Each gives a different verdict. Kaito (name tag KAITO) scribbles frantically on a blank notepad; Rin (name tag RIN) films. NURSE: In love? No. She's just the only one awake when you are. STUDENT: That's literally what love is, though. OLD MAN: In my day we'd be married nine years by now. KAITO: That's four verdicts. None of them agree. RIN: the data's beautiful. KAITO: A fact can't have four values.
Page 8
Four panels. Kaito (name tag KAITO), out of pure displacement, picks up the corded counter phone and calls head office with a dead-serious face. Rin (name tag RIN) films in disbelief. He lowers the handset, defeated. KAITO: Yes, hello — head office? KAITO: Is there a policy on staff and passengers of adjacent transit. RIN: he called corporate. RIN: he actually called corporate. KAITO: ...they hung up.
Page 9
Two panels — the running beat a third time. Top: Kaito (name tag KAITO) stares toward the dark, rain-streaked front doors, sweating, while Rin (name tag RIN) lowers her phone and watches him. Bottom: the same identical framing, Kaito's finger half-raised, wearier now. RIN: still can't say it, huh. KAITO: ...that's not—
Page 10
Three panels as the clock nears 3:12. Kaito (name tag KAITO) glances toward the automatic front doors, tense. Rin (name tag RIN) lowers her phone and asks quietly. A close-up shows Kaito steeling himself. KAITO: ...it's almost twelve past. RIN: you gonna correct her too? KAITO: ...that's the plan.
Page 11
A single wide panel. Through the rain-streaked front windows, an empty city night-bus has pulled up at the kerb under a streetlight, doors open, the silhouette of a driver stepping down onto the wet street. Kaito's back is visible in the foreground at the counter, still and watching. RIN: 3:12.
Page 12
Four panels introducing Amano Yuki, the night-bus driver — dark navy transit jacket with rolled sleeves, short black hair tucked behind her ears, a dented steel thermos, white gloves in her chest pocket, a whistle on a lanyard. She comes in to refill her thermos with free hot water. Rin (name tag RIN) narrates her routine for the camera. Yuki eyes Kaito (name tag KAITO), who looks worn out. YUKI: Hot water's still free? YUKI: Thirteen minutes till my loop. Better make it count. RIN: the bus lady. shows up 3:12, gone by 3:31. YUKI: You look worse than usual. Busy night? KAITO: ...define busy.
Page 13
Four panels — the turn. The drunk salaryman gleefully points between Kaito and Yuki and repeats his claim. Yuki, holding her dented steel thermos, considers it without a flicker of embarrassment, then answers plainly and takes a calm sip. SALARYMAN: Told him! You two! In love. Obviously! YUKI: Yes. Obviously. YUKI: So?
Page 14
A single large reaction panel — the running beat inverted. Kaito (name tag KAITO) stands behind the counter, mouth open and one index finger raised in exactly the same pose he used every time he tried to deny it — but his expression is no longer panic; it is quiet, resigned honesty. A single bead of sweat. KAITO: ...yeah.
Page 15
Four panels. Kaito (name tag KAITO) and Yuki stand on either side of the counter in an awkward silence, having just admitted the truth. Kaito asks, logistically, what they're supposed to do about it. Yuki glances at the waiting bus and states the plain problem. Rin (name tag RIN) hovers in the corner, phone lowered, unusually quiet. KAITO: So do we... do we do something about this? YUKI: I've got eleven minutes and then I drive a bus. KAITO: ...right. The bus.
Page 16
Three panels. Yuki caps her dented steel thermos and pulls her white gloves from her pocket. At the door she half-turns for a dry look back. Through the window, the empty night-bus pulls away from the kerb; Kaito's silhouette watches it go. YUKI: Layover's over. YUKI: Same time tomorrow. KAITO: ...yeah.
Page 17
Two panels in pale dawn light, the rain stopped. Kaito (name tag KAITO) stands facing the now-empty doorway and finally says the rest of it, to no one. Beside him, Rin (name tag RIN) holds her phone low at her side, its screen dark, unusually sincere. KAITO: ...I'd have ridden the whole loop. RIN: ...not posting this one.
Page 18
A single wide panel mirroring the opening shot from the same camera angle — but now in pale grey dawn light instead of night, the rain stopped and the street brightening through the windows. The place at the counter where the drunk salaryman slumped is empty. Kaito (name tag KAITO) stands behind the register. Rin (name tag RIN) leans on the same shelf, but her phone is held down at her side, screen dark, not raised. KAITO: ...slow morning.
