The morning after Kaito finally crossed the glass, he returns to the footpath and discovers that helping Kiku is not the same as taking over her work. As the wind scatters debris back across the pavement, he learns to value a route made passable one small sweep at a time, and Rin chooses to join them outside.

Outside the brightly lit store, Kaito and an elderly woman hold brooms on the wet pavement. Kaito’s name tag reads “KAITO.” Kaito: “You came back.” Kaito: “I said tomorrow.” Elderly woman: “Did you sleep?” Kaito: “Not much.”

Page 2

Kiku and Kaito sweep a reflective floor near the glass storefront, with leaves scattered around them. Kiku: “Keep it low.” Kiku: “Let the bristles do the work.” Kaito: “I was letting it know who's in charge.”

Outside the glass-fronted shop, leaves and scraps are scattered across the wet pavement. The young man in a striped apron stands facing the elderly woman, who is sweeping with a long broom. Young man: Sorry. I just undid your work. Elderly woman: Wind’s part of the route. Young man: It feels like— Elderly woman: Not a verdict.

Outside the shop, Kaito and Kiku sweep leaves from the wet footpath. Kaito asks, “Do you ever get to the end of the strip?” Kiku replies, “I get to the next bit.”

Page 5

Kaito stands with a broom beside Kiku, who gestures toward the sidewalk. A scrap of paper lies near the curb on the wet pavement. Kiku: “Footpath side.” Kaito sweeps the paper toward himself with the broom, keeping on the sidewalk. Kaito: “Right. No heroics.” Kiku continues sweeping while Kaito stands with his broom and the paper near its head.

Inside the shop, Rin watches Kaito and Kiku sweeping outside through the windows. She places her phone face-down on the counter and says, “They’re not doing it for the camera.” Rin then reaches toward a broom near the entrance.

Rin and Kaito are at the store entrance, while an elderly woman sweeps near the vending machines outside. Rin says, “I’m not filming this one.” Kaito asks, “Then what are you doing?” Rin says, “Apparently, my section.” The elderly woman says, “There.” Rin and Kaito then sweep the pavement beside her.
